CORNELL METHOD

Cornell method is a simple and powerful note-taking way which helps us make our notes clear and easy. It divides our content page into three parts. First one is Notes Section which is written on right side of page. During lecture we can write definitions, examples and main points in this section. Then the next section is Cue Column which is written on left side. In this section we can write keywords, questions related to the discussion on right side. This section can be written after class because it is the part where you work for your own understanding. Unlike the Cue Column, Notes Section is the part where we need to focus during lecture. The last section is Summary which is written on bottom of your particular page. In this section we just have to write a short summary of at least 5 sentences of what the lecture was about. Now as we know about Cornell Method, we will talk about how it is effective and why it works?

The very first point is that it promotes active listening. It prepares you to write essay because of  the summary section that can be used thesis statement. This method will also help in revision because the notes section will have all the main points that you need to focus on.

MIND MAPPNG

Mind mapping is a method where we write the main topic in center and then draw branches and sub-branches around it. This branches will be the main points of the topic that we need to concentrate. Instead of writing notes we create a diagram which can grab the attention of the reader without getting bored. Now we will talk about why this method is useful?

Mind mapping is really a good technique especially for visual learners because instead of seeing boring notes you will be able to get all the lecture just through a diagram. It promotes creativity. It is beneficial for generating essay themes. 

DIGITAL NOTE-TAKING APPS

There are different note-taking apps that are flexible and easy to use. Apps like NOTION, ONENOTE, EVERNOTE are the mostly used apps. They let us to write , save and keep notes on different devices so we can access them from anywhere and anytime. This is also a very effective ways because we can search by using keywords which will save our time while writing essay. It also supports multimedia through which we can use videos and pictures for our understanding which will also make our notes lively and vibrant. By using digital note-taking apps we can also backup our study notes. This method is efficient from note-taking to essay writing. 

TRADITIONAL PAPER NOTES

Even being in digital era some people still prefer hand written notes. This will also help them memorize easily. This method raise your spirits to concentrate without getting any digital distractions. It improves your active listening as it makes you write what you hear. This method is not out-of-date but it is an alternative method to keep notes organize and safe. 

DIGITAL VS PAPER NOTES

Digital notes are good if you prefer searching and easy combination with essay writing software. They are also very helpful for group projects and enormous amount of writing. While paper notes are more appropriate if you are good in focusing without getting distracted. It will also enhance your creativity skills. A mixed and balanced way can be very good approach such as taking notes by hands during lectures and then copying them on digital note-taking programs.

Tagging and categorization, tag your notes as lecture1 or by the name of the topic whether it is on computer or your notebook. The other one is Connection of your Assignment with your Study-Notes in which you need to have specific folder for each essay or subject. Then the last technique to organize your notes is Weekly Summarizing in which we need to write at least one page summary of main points at the end of every week. These summaries can be used as essay outlines or for revision. In this way you will not only write your notes but you will also make them useful for future. 

ROLE OF ACTIVE LISTENING

The most effective way of taking notes is listening attentively no matter what method you are using. It is an important and helpful tool for writing essay. Different techniques or strategies will be of no use if we are not active listeners.
